Separately or together we have lived and worked in the USA, India, Lebanon, Yemen Arab Republic, Seychelles, Kenya, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and British Virgin Islands.
Geoff was almost born on a boat as his parents were building one during his early years. By the age of 6 he could safely handle their motor cruiser. He learned to sail in the hectic waters of Portsmouth Harbour in the UK, home of the Royal Navy.
He has enjoyed a varied career in aviation, mostly in East Africa, Yemen. Saudi Arabia and Dubai, but also including two years as European catering manager for a major US charter airline.
Together, Geoff & Iza managed the creation of a new tourist seaplane service in Dubai during 2007.
Geoff and Iza first met in Sana'a, Yemen Arab Republic where Iza was teaching English and Geoff was managing a DC8 air cargo operation. Sana'a in the late 70's was a real experience! Geoff has some great tales to tell. Just to add spice to Iza's travels, she co-drove a Land Rover from the UK to Yemen!
Iza started traveling immediately after obtaining a geology degree at Imperial College, University of London. She has since worked as a geologist in India; researcher in Beirut, Lebanon; sales and marketing executive for Bowater Arabia; English teacher and office manager in Yemen; a charter yacht chef in the Seychelles; started a carpentry business in Kenya; managed a major international confectionary exhibition in London; Head of Information Technology in an international school in Saudi Arabia, and Admin Manager of a new seaplane operation in Dubai.
After a year in the Seychelles, Iza sailed to South Africa, settling in Cape Town. Meanwhile Geoff transferred to Nairobi in Kenya, still in the air cargo business..
Six years after they first met in Sana'a, Iza and her children joined Geoff in Nairobi, enjoying the many game reserves to explore and the beautiful coastline for diving. Geoff had a Private Pilot's License and regularly flew around the country to game reserves and on business to Tanzania, Uganda and Zanzibar. He was also active in the car rally scene, first managing a service support team, then with Iza, providing a photographic record of the Kenya Safari Rally. For a while they lived in the house used for the film "Out of Africa" the film with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. They also assisted in managing a friend's gem mine a long way from civilization, producing the rare green Tsavorite, living in a mud hut designed to withstand AK47 attacks, with elephants, lions and black mamba snakes as close neighbours.
Geoff lived in Nairobi for a total of 11 years, then Iza and Geoff moved on to Saudi Arabia, where they spent 14 years. Geoff managing Saudi Arabia's largest international airline ground handling organisation, with over 1,000 employees and Iza as head of the IT department in an international school. Geoff was very involved in logistics support to the allies during the first Gulf War 1990/91, dodging the occasional Scud missile, and management of the massive flight program for the annual Haj pilgrimage. For their last 10 years in Saudi, they lived in Jeddah enjoying regular diving in pristine waters of the Red Sea.
Their cruising experience together started in the mid 90's through a number of bareboat charters around the Caribbean and Mexico. They started full time cruising on their first boat, a sailing monohull called Dream On in 2004, enjoying many months exploring the Bahamas, the US East Coast and diving in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Geoff and Iza took a break from cruising in 2006/7 and took an 18 month assignment working in Dubai to establish Seawings, a new airline operating tourist flights with seaplanes, with Geoff as CEO and Iza as Admin Manager. With the airline operating successfully with 3 aircraft, a replacement for Geoff was recruited and they returned to cruising.
In 2008, they sailed their monohull "Dream On" from Brunswick in Georgia to Annapolis to sell and purchased "Dreaming On" in Belize. Geoff & Iza then sailed Dreaming On from Belize to the magnificent Rio Dulce in Guatemala, then north to Mexico and on to Florida.
After a very extensive refit during 2009, including new engines and completely new electronics, they sailed from Florida through the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic and on to Puerto Rico and the Virgin islands. There was a little excitement on their overnight trip between Turks and Caicos and Dominican Republic, when they found and rescued two Dominican Republic fishermen adrift in their dinghy 30 miles offshore.
The Virgin Islands became our home for a while as loved the area and spent a very enjoyable 5 years operating luxury yacht charters there.
In June 2015, Geoff, Iza and Dreaming On sailed to Belize to explore the wonderful uncongested waters inside the Barrier Reef.
